Cleveland Color Guard
Outdoor Colorguard/Dance
The Cleveland High School Fall Colorguard is the most visual unit of the Cleveland High School Marching Band. The colorguard focuses on dance and equipment skills to visually represent the music of the marching band, and they rehearse, travel, perform, and compete with the marching band.
Students in the CHS Fall Colorguard will be enrolled in the Outdoor Colorguard/Dance class at Cleveland High School for the Fall semester. This class earns students a Fine Arts credit, and it can count towards a Humanities Focus Area.
Cleveland Winterguard
Cleveland Winterguard is an indoor competitive unit made solely of colorguard performers that visually interpret music through the use of flags and dance. The Cleveland Winterguard competes with other high school groups from Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama in the Scholastic A Class of the Southern Association for Performance Arts competition circuit based in Atlanta. This group meets strictly after school for practices and competes on 4 to 5 Saturdays January through March. Auditions for Winterguard are held in November.
Middle School Winterguard
Winterguard is an indoor competitive unit made solely of colorguard performers. Colorguard, in this respect, is a performance group that visually interprets music through the use of flags and dance. Winterguard is a great way to improve dance skills, hand-to-eye coordination, performance skills, self-confidence, discipline, dedication, responsibility, and teamwork. It is also a great way to prepare for auditions for the high school’s marching band colorguard and winterguard. Any current Cleveland Middle School student in 6th – 8th grade may audition for the group.
The Cleveland Middle School Winterguard competes with other middle school groups from Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama in the Cadet Class of the Southern Association for Performance Arts (SAPA) competition circuit based in Atlanta. This group meets strictly after school for practices and competes on 4 to 5 Saturdays January through March. Auditions for the CMS winterguard are held in November.
